Wherein I earn a Gold Star

About 10:00am yesterday morning my bride calls me...She was scheduled to take our 9 year old to a class pool party (a parent was requested to attend with their child) and now her schedule prevented her from doing so. Ah, the crazy life of a CPA! So, the question arose, would I be able to get out of work and take our daughter to said party?

Not wanting to be a spoiler, and besides who really wants to tell a 9 year old that they cannot go to a class pool party,(serioulsy) I inquired from my employer if I could, at the last minute, take a 1/2 day personal day and explained the situation in greater detail than I am allowing here. His response, No Problem!

See, here is the great thing about working for a small business owner and entrepreneurial company and and having an employer who understands the values of family time...something that is sorely lacking in todays world. You wouldn't get that kind of treatment at a box store or other large conglomerate type of work environment...I digress....

So, off I went to home at the appointed time, changed into some beach attire, slapped on some tanning oil, rounded up my aforementioned 9 year old daughter with her gear and away we went to lounge at the pool with all her classmates all afternoon. It was a tough thing to do, you know, to sit and relax, soak up the sun and not think about work...Of course all the other kids parents were all there too....they were all Moms....so that made me, like, the only dude there.....not that I minded...a few of the moms were pretty hot....a-hem...once again I digress...

So, the kids swam and swam and swam, had waterfights, boys against the girls mind you, splashed, dove off the diving board, ate cookies, brownies, watermelon and grapes and swam some more. Much to my surprise no one got hurt nor were any tears shed for any reason whatsoever. For some very strange reason I enjoyed lounging by the pool...I had brought a book to read, which I did. I chatted at length with a couple of the Moms too (not the hot ones though), got hit with super-soakers a couple of times by the water-rats and, in the process, worked on my tan.

Finally the time came for the Pool party to conclude. My 9 year old and I are walking to the car when the following conversation ensued:

Her: Dad, why were you, like, the only Dad there?

Me: I dunno...

Her: I think I know...

Me: Really? Why?

Her:'Cause you're the coolest Dad ever!

Talk about making a Dad feel good...Yup, that about does it...which is why this post is filed under Family, Life and Undeniable truths.
